A Village Festival, with a Theatrical Performance and a Procession in Honour of St Hubert and St Anthony, 1632. Pieter Brueghel the Younger was based in the Southern Netherlands and came from a family of artists. He specialised in depicting dynamic, busy scenes from the lives of ordinary people. This painting of saints day celebrations from The Fitzwilliam Museum is rich in detail and humour, with each glance revealing a new character dancing, cooking and making merry.
This is one of the major paintings that forms a part of the Fitzwilliam Collection, and it is known all over the world.
