The favourable reception given to the work in the United States has encouraged the insertion of a larger number of American decisions; but in order to avoid an unnecessary increase in the bulk of the volume, refer ence has generally been confined to the latest leading case in the Reports of the Supreme Court of the United States, and of the Court of Appeals in the State of New York. This will suffice to guide the reader to the authorities in the Courts of the other States.
