Publisher's Synopsis
When twelve year old Preston Matthews finds a wallet on the playground, he and his best friend Gage Warner discover a message inside that triggers an adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, their lifelong friendship is tested, adolescent crushes develop, new friendships are formed and a buried treasure changes their lives forever. Preston and Gage each have a younger brother, Brandon Matthews and Zach Warner, both eight. The wallet they find sends all four boys and their parents on a month long, all expenses paid trip to Okinawa, Japan. There, they meet a military family that takes them on an adventure around the island while experiencing the life of military families. While on a guided tour, the kids wander off and discover a map which ultimately leads them to treasure. Through their search for the missing pieces of the key, the kids struggle with jealousy, coming of age crushes and the realization that friendships are what make you truly wealthy. My real name is Kim Kattawar Mahfouz. (I am using Kim Katt as my Pen name.) I am a proud wife of a now retired United States Marine. We were stationed on Okinawa for six years and while this book is fiction, most of the places I used for the kids adventure are actual places on Okinawa. In the beginning, I started writing this book for my own children but as the story unfolded and developed, I realized that a book written about military children and the adventures and lifestyles they live everyday, could be informational and entertaining whether it is read by military or civilian children.
