Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Theory for the Small Unsymmetric Deformations of Cylindrical Shells

In terms of the cylindrical coordinate system, (r, O, x), a cylindrical shell of uniform thickness 2h, radius R and length L is defined as an elastic body bounded by the coaxial surfaces r R i h and the planes x O and x L. The inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder, r R h and r R h, respectively, are subjected only to normal pressures. The edges of the cylinder formed by the annular regions x O, L, R h r R h, are submitted to normal and shear forces. The applied forces are arbitrary provided they form a system.in equilibrium.
