Eleven-year-old Jack C. Gorman (or "Jaxy," as he is jokingly called by his new classmates) has just moved from New York to the small, bland town of Rockbottom, Delaware. The meek, timid boy doesn't fit in at his new school and quickly becomes a magnet for cruel jokes and bullying. But things aren't as they seem to be! As it turns out, there is a dark secret surrounding the entire sixth grade. And once Jaxy finds out, his life will never be the same again.
I quickened my pace. All of a sudden, a classroom door to my right flew open, and before I could react, something or someone grabbed me from behind. Somebody's hand covered my eyes, and a strong arm had wrapped around my waist, carrying me backwards.
