Excerpt from A Synopsis of the Genera and Species of Museae

Pt. 3, t. 4. Whole plant 6 - 8 ft. Long. Leaves oblong, green and glabrous beneath, 2 - 3 ft. Long by nearly a foot broad, rounded at the base; petiole long, stout. Panicle pendulous from a curved stout peduncle which is densely clothed with soft brown hairs, deltoid, a foot long and broad; rachis ?exuose, densely pubescent; branch-bracts ovate, deeply boat-shaped, densely hairy outside, spreading, the central ones 3 - 4 in. Long, 2 in. Round above the shortly adnate base, the lowest bract 5 - 6 in. Long. Flowers many in a cluster, 2 in. Long; bracts lanceolate, hairy, as long as the ?owers. Staminode subulate, minute. Venezuela, Morz'lz, 250! Fendler, 1771! Brazil.
