In the village of Summerstoke it's not only the autumn fireworks that go with a bang. Juliet Peters, soap star and compulsive flirt, and Isabelle Garnett, ex-artist, neglected housewife and mother of two, have nothing in common but are both trying to build a new life in the country. Their husbands seem to be on a collision course too - one, a newly elected MP returning to his family roots; the other a local newspaper editor desperate for a story.
