Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Story of Six Decades

N the times of the Apostles, the opponents of Christianity thought to stamp out the truth by the iron heel of oppression, or to consume it by the fires of persecution. The disciples were scattered abroad, but the means taken to destroy only made them stronger in their faith; and, in every place to which they were driven, centres of influence were formed, whence new churches speedily came into being. Thus martyrs have ever been the seed of the church. The experience of the early Christians was repeated, with essentially the same features, in the days when the Puritans of Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay began their history.
