Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Short Poem, Containing a Descant on the Universal Plan: Also, Lines on the Happy End of the Righteous, and Prosperity and Death of the Rich Man

Quotations from Peck are frequently met with in the works of Orthodox writers on the doctrine of Universal Salvation, showing that its arguments were considered of some value in the discussion. It does certainly contain a number of fair hits, and its reason ing is forceful and to the point. The style thereof, we presume, will be counted not the highest in the di vine art, ' if it be not by some actually called doggerel. But then it will be observed that our poet claims for it nothing higher. He was evidently an unlettered man, as his imperfect English abundantly testifies. We have printed it verbatim, for we think it fitting that the author should tell his own story in his own language.

The copy from which this is printed was found in the library of S. G. Drake, Esq., and was kindly loaned by him for the purpose.
