The effect of the ultrasonics on the nuclear spin system was determined by the difference in signal height which was observed on an oscilloscope when the ultrasonic power was present and when it was absent [proctor, and Tanttila, 1956; Proctor and Robinson, Measurements of the ultrasonic absorption linewidth were obtained by making a number of separate measurements at frequencies on either side of the transition frequency.
