Gymnosporangium is an important genus of these parasitic fungi, which have the unique habit of heteroecism or living on more than one host plant during different periods of their life histories.

The work is a thoroughly revised and updated account of Professor Kern's study, "A Biologic and Taxonomic Study of the Genus Gymnosporangium," published by the New York Botanical Garden in 1911.
