Publisher's Synopsis

This is the only existing authoritative taxonomic account of the species of fungi commonly known as cedar-apple rusts. Gymnosporangium is an important genus of these parasitic fungi, which have the unique habit of heteroecism or living on more than one host plant during different periods of their life histories.

This presentation of seventy-three species of Gymnosporangium and related forms includes valid names, nonvalid names, and geographical distribution. The work is a thoroughly revised and updated account of Professor Kern's study, "A Biologic and Taxonomic Study of the Genus Gymnosporangium," published by the New York Botanical Garden in 1911.

This presentation of both old and new material as well as many references to the pathological aspects of important host plants of the cedar-apple groups will be invaluable not only for scientists, but also for orchardists, nurserymen, landscape gardeners, and quarantine officials.
