Publisher's Synopsis
For the past six years, Jeremy Van Hijser has stumbled through life. The loss of his wife and their newborn baby leaves a gaping hole in his soul, and he withdraws from the outside world, hunting and trapping game in the dense Canadian woods. But in 1813, Jeremy becomes involved in the year-old war between the United States and the British, unaware of the mass devastation yet to come.
Jeremy becomes a scout for the British. With his uncanny ability to see what others cannot, he reports on the enemy's movements in the area around the Niagara River. But near his farmground, groups of British raiders are fighting a forward action with the help of native allies while largely uncontrolled volunteers and Canadian traitors are creating havoc for both sides. Unfortunately, Jeremy lands right in the middle.
Thrown deeper into the conflict, Jeremy realizes that the war threatens to destroy everyone and everything he holds dear, including his values. But as the fortunes of the two North American powers swirl about him, Jeremy must do what he can to survive-no matter the cost.
