Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American author best known for writing the classic Tarzan and John Carter stories. Burroughs was a prolific writer in many different genres and many of his books have been made into films. A Princess of Mars is the first novel in the John Carter series. The story introduces us to John Carter, a veteran from the Confederate Army in the American Civil War, who searched for treasure out West after the war ended. When Carter stumbles across a sacred cave he is mysteriously transported to Mars.
