A Place in Time is a Reconstruction Era novella about the healing of America, and compares the post-Civil War period to the early twenty-first century. It is centered in Southwestern Virginia The main character, Will Patterson, has a traumatic past, being orphaned at eighteen after his father was killed in the war, and his mother dies from disease. He is befriended by an opulent neighbor with a charming daughter, is given a place of authority, and catches the eye of the organizers of the Reconstruction. He is then magnetically drawn into their cause and becomes the driving force behind the shutting down of the Klu-Klux-Klan.
