The writer of this Memoir was the youngest of the band of ladies who came out in 1868 at the Bishop's call, and had abundant opportunities of seeing him during the last four years of his life. She must be, therefore, one of the comparatively few left now who are' able, from personal recollection, to bring into prominence the tender and affectionate side of his character, as shown to those who knew him best, and thus correct the impression, which I fear is too preva lent, that he was little else than a fiery enthusiast of extreme Views, which he was determined to force upon old-fashioned Church folk.
