Publisher's Synopsis
In December 1952 a wedding is being planned in April Grove, Portsmouth. Jess and Frank Budd want to bring together all their friends, from April Grove itself, from Bridge End where the family was evacuated during the war, and even from Burracombe where Stella Simmons and her sister Maddy now live. Sammy Hodges falls in love with Maddy, but Stephen Napier, son of the squire of Burracombe, proves a strong rival. Meanwhile, Lizzie and Alec seem to have overcome the problems they suffered when Alec returned from prisoner-of-war camp, but when a face from Lizzie's past reappears, everything is turned upside down.
