Excerpt from A New American Biographical Dictionary, or Remembrancer of the Departed Heroes and Statesmen of America: Confined Exclusively to Those Who Signalized Themselves in Either Capacity, in the Revolutionary War Which Obtained the Independence of Their Country
No work of the kind has hitherto been pub lished, and the editor has been particularly careful to select, with the strictest impartia lity, a sketch of the lives and characters of those departed heroes and statesmen, without respect to country or station, who signalized themselves, in either capacity, in the revolu tionary war, which obtained the independence of our country. There are many, no doubt, who highly distinguished themselves, whose names have not been mentioned, through ne gleet of their friends, notwithstanding repeat ed solicitations from the editor. However, it is presumed, that if a second edition should appear they will not be again neglected.
