This collection has been drawn together to celebrate the long and important history of women's football in Scotland. Often perceived as a relatively new sport for women, taken up in the wake of second-wave feminism, or ladette culture, the overlooked reality is that women have been playing football in Scotland continuously for over a century and its roots can be traced back hundreds of years. Women have had to fight for opportunities to play the game they love. They have been banned and discriminated against. They have faced hostility and sexism. And yet, they persevered and found ways to play.
