At that time, dear children, the central and western parts of Pennsylvania were thinly set tled. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and other States west were not known. They did not exist as States. There were vast stretches of woods on hills and in valleys, where the red men, with their squaws and pappooses lived. Deer, turkeys and pheasants and fish and berries was their food.
