Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Method for Constructing Site Index Curves From Measurements of Tree Age and Height, Its Application to Inland Douglas-Fir

For many years the most widely followed practice in describing forest site quality has been the use of a quantitative measuring system-site index curves. These must be developed for individual species and are supposed to represent the relationship between height and age of the average dominant and codomin'ant trees on the site. These curves can be derived from measurements that indicate height and age of selected trees at different periods in time, or from measurements of height and age at one point in time on a large number of trees that range in age from young to Old.
