In Homer, the terms Achai, Argeii, and Danni, are used as general names for the whole nation. Ppatxoi seems to have been an ancient designation of the Hellenes, when they dwelt near Dodona in Epirus. Thence it was carried to the coast of Italy; and sulnequently from history, until it was revived by the Romans.
