Excerpt from A Letter to the Reverend the Presbytery of Tain: On the Subject of the Laws Which Affect the Roman Catholics
To the Legislature, and as the Presbytery of Tain seem to have been unanimous in favour of the Petition, I think it proper to state to them in writing, what I should certainly, had it been possible, have said at the discussion in the Synod. Having had the honour of representing your Re verend Body in the General Assembly, I hope you will not deem this communica tion improper; for I am deeply impressed with the conviction that it is a duty which every man owes to his country, to endea vour to dissipate prejudices, which he is convinced are most injurious to its inte rests. Without any farther preface, 'i shall proceed with the subject.
