Yakhlif was born in Samakh in 1944 and has lived as a refugee for most of his life. This is the first of his novels to be translated into English. It is about the most catastrophic year in Palestinian history, a time marked by violent clashes between Zionist forces and the volunteers of the Arab Liberation Army.
