Excerpt from A History of Water Resource Activities of the United States Department of Agriculture
On March 27, 1935, the Secretary of Agriculture, by Departmental Memorandum 665, directed the unification of the Department's activities pertaining to soil erosion under the Soil Erosion Service. This order transferred to the ses the erosion control experiment stations of the Bureau of Chemistry and Soils and the Bureau of Agricultural Engineering and the erosion control nurseries of the Bureau of Plant Industry. (28) The 10 experiment stations transferred were located near Guthrie, Oklahoma; Temple, Texas; Hays, Kansas; Tyler, Texas; Bethany, Missouri; Statesville, North Carolina; Pullman, Washington; Clarinda, Iowa; La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Zanesville, Ohio.
