The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized as one of the first denominations following the Revolutionary War.
Early branches of Methodists had been participants in the NC Council of Churches. They supplied funds and much leadership. Two of those leaders were Rev. Williams and Mr. William Peele, who later became Bishops.
