Publisher's Synopsis

THIS IS NOT A BOOK BY MOHSIN HAMID, NOR IS IT AFFILIATED WITH HER. IT IS AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION WRITTEN TO REVIEW HAMID'S BOOK TO OFFER AN INSIGHT ON THE ORIGINAL BOOK.

ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

How would it feel to discover that your father or mother has a tinge of disdain for you since your skin is no longer white? They no longer hug you, or the strain in their eyes before greeting you is too apparent to ignore.

Such were the premise of Mohsin Hamid's most recent work, "The Last White Man", in which an unnamed town in the United States is struck by a pandemic that darkens the complexion of the skin. White individuals are forced to face hard facts about power and identity when they abruptly acquire dark skin.

The latest book by Hamid, has an ironic reference to this frightening transformation. In the first phase, a white guy called Anders discovers that his complexion has become "a deep and irrefutable brown." Following Kafka's example, the origin of this unexpected change is unclear, as is its significance.

He emphasizes the love between two characters, Anders and Oona, and their extended family. You are attracted to them, witness the changes in the external world refracted through their eyes, and your viewpoint may even be gently altered if you're fortunate.
