The object of the compiler of this work was to offer to the public a dictionary, which young Greek scholars could use with ease and advantage to themselves; but sufficiently full to be equally serviceable as they advanced a Book that would answer for School, for College, and more particularly, for reading the New Testament and the Septuagint. It was not without a conviction of its necessity, founded on experience, that this work was undertaken. How far it will answer the proposed end will be best known to those who make a trial of its merits. To explain how that has been attempted is the purpose of these pages.
