Publisher's Synopsis
Elnora Comstock, is a needy young woman who lives with her widowed mother, Katharine Comstock, on the sting of the Limberlost. Elnora faces cold neglect by her mother, a lady who feels ruined by the death of her husband, Henry Martyn Robert Comstock, who submerged in quicksand in the swamp. Katharine blames Elnora for his death, as a result of her husband died whereas she gave birth to their female offspring and will not return to his rescue. The Comstocks build cash by selling eggs and different farm products, however Mrs. Comstock refuses to chop down a single tree within the forest, or to take for oil, because the neighbors around them are doing, although the accessorial financial gain would build their lives easier.
