Owen Archer, sometime spy, joins a pilgrimage to Wales in order to recreuit archers for the Duke of Lancaster's forthcoming expedition to France. Joined by Geoffrey Chaucer, reporting on the King's defenses, the two men suspect the royal steward is betraying his King to the Welsh rebels. Dragged into investigating brutal murders, tension in the steward's household and theft, Owen must investigate charges of infidelity and homicide, whilst all the while working to prevent further deaths....
