Scipion era o bisavo de Philippe Pinel, o psiquiatra encarregado dos Hospitais Bicetre e Saltpetriere 1792-1826, em Paris Seu filho Charles Pinel mudou para o Brasil em 1830 e se casou com Marie Catherine Rime, que emigrou da Suica para o Brasil com sua familia em 1819. Seus descendentes sao numerosos e ainda forte no Brasil.
