Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Doctor's Pilgrimage
The Pinnacle, which is the original mountain from which Daniel Boone viewed Kentucky, is approached by a rather steep and bad road, which passes directly through the historic Cumberland Gap, where the meeting-point of the States of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia is marked by a white stone. In view of the outrages which in past years have been committed here, one of a dark color should have been chosen, for this contiguity of the States made the place at one time very popular with a certain class of transgressors who found it very easy to evade the sheriff by the shortest kind of a promenade, which consisted in stepping from one State into the other.
