Excerpt from A Digest of the Laws of Illinois, Relating to Common Schools and School Lands: To Which Is Added, an Appendix of Instructions and Forms, Prepared Under the Direction of a Joint Committee of the General Assembly
Sec. 5. The trustees, or a majonnty Of them, shall have power to lease any of sand lots, except such as may be re served as aforesand, to any person or persons wnshnng to lease the same, for such term Of tnme as they may thnnk propen, not exceeding ten years, and upon such terms as they may thnnk most conducnve to the Interest Of the town shnp Promdecl, That sand trustees shall advertnse the leas mg of such lands for at least four weeks, In four Of the most publnc places of the townshnp, prevnous to the maknng any lease, and sand trustees shall lease sand lands to the persons offernng the best terms, and shall, or a majornty Of them, make and execute leases to the persons to whom they may let such lands. Sand leases shall be condntnoned to use the lands In a husband-lnke manner, and not to commnt or suffer waste thereon, and to pay sand trustees at the end Of each year, the amount Of money or rent agreed upon In sand lease.
