Publisher's Synopsis
Monica is a homemaker, who has recently shifted from a town to a quiet countryside place with her family. She lives with her husband and two sons, along with a house-maid named Rita. Her stay in there seems fine and sound for the couple of weeks, but along with the passing of time, she gets encountered with multiple disturbances and sees a little girl in a recurring order, whose identity is completely mysterious to her. This continues to happen so much that she is left with no choice but to consult it with her husband, who takes it seriously but at the same time makes a suggestion that it might be her illusion, being alone with not much to do around in a new and strange place. She then confides it in her childhood friend cum doctor, who unlike her husband, suggests her that there might be some kind of a spirit roaming in the house with unfinished business since the house was bought, rather than built by them.Monica finds it apt to take her husband's suggestion about being alone as it was more plausible to her than her best friend's remarks that she starts to get socialized with the locales but because of the very limited people in there, she only becomes able to know one family of Mrs. Sharma in more of a proper way, from where she learns that the house in which she was living in, bore some nasty background of the owners. This naturally terrifies her but the thing that nearly makes her blood run cold, was when she finds out the girl she was seeing was the same girl she learned from this neighbor to be dead in that very same house, more than a decade ago. The truth of the house is more than enough for her to frighten that she slowly feels her presence in the house. In all this, the particular thing she doesn't understand is why on earth is she the only one to feel her presence? Why other members of the house aren't aware of this creepiness? Although she very much wants to share this horrible experience with her husband, she keeps pushing it away in the fear that he might think her insane, while her best friend after knowing, wants her to cleanse the house by some priest, which she doesn't believe at all, for she never believed in the existence of ghosts or spirits. This continues so much that being sick and tired, she finally tells her husband everything from the start, and this time her husband seems really worried and suggests her to immediately consult some psychiatrist; saying if any paranormal activity was actually in the house, others too must feel it. Agreeing on her husband, Monica takes an appointment from her best friend's contact in the hospital. She narrates her story from the beginning to the doctor and he concludes that she has been imagining things on her own, with not much to do in the house. This opinion of him is easily accepted by both her friend and her husband that she too takes it to be correct. The doctor instructs her not to think too much but get occupied with some here and there things, in order to be distracted which she tries her best to be so. However, at the final session with the doctor, she hears the voice of the same girl who threatens her to kill and she collapses. With the unstable mental state, she is admitted in the psychiatric ward where she is put into various medications, but she cannot differentiate at all if it is making her better or worse, however putting faith that everything will be all right, she just agrees and acts as per the situation. In the meantime, a visitor comes to see her making the revelation most bizarre and unbelievable for her. Then the series of events she had experienced ever since she had seen the girl, becomes all clear but too hard to even accept, turning her whole world upside down.
