"In the legal profession, the pursuit of justice often comes at a cost-a toll on the mental health and well-being of lawyers. Burnout, depression, and elevated rates of anxiety are critical issues affecting the legal community. Recent studies from Massachusetts and California/District of Columbia reveal alarming statistics, shedding light on the mental health challenges within the profession. I am not writing this book as an academic exercise. In 2004, at the height of my legal career, I had a nervous breakdown and quit practicing law. I was a third-generation trial lawyer in North Carolina, AV rated in the Martindale-Hubbell law directory by my peers. I had many friends and colleagues.
