Publisher's Synopsis
"Heathen Mythology" by Gilbert was marketed as a broad overview of mostly Greek and Roman lore for young, aristocratic females in the era. In an apparent bid to compete with other overview-style works it adds a bit of Hindu and Egyptian lore also.It is as good a short primer for the memory on such subjects as any, and perhaps better because of such additions. It is at once thus useful for those studying such pagan systems as it is amusing due to the period and intent of its manufacture.
