Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Collection of Hieroglyphs: A Contribution to the History of Egyptian Writing

The present work is in continuation of the task begun in 86715 Hasan III. That of ascertaining and illustrating the history and origins of the hieroglyphic characters. Much special study has meanwhile been devoted to the subject, and it is hoped that the present Memoir, besides being more elaborate, will Show a marked advance in the explanation of the signs upon the somewhat hasty descriptions in the preceding volume.
