In the midst of Stalin's totalitarian rule, peasant farmers are being robbed, threatened and beaten in the name of collectivisation. In these dark times, the citizens of Soviet Russia cannot speak their minds for fear of the dreaded secret police, and cold summers are producing poor harvests leading to deathly famine. In the depths of starvation and despair, Yuri Kazakof, along with his father and the support of his family, stands defiant agains the corrupt officials who see him as nothing more than a trouble maker - an enemy of the people who must be stopped.
