Publisher's Synopsis
A BRIDGE TO TIME. . . A Bridge to Time is two books in one. It is a memoir of a child growing up following the Second World War and a fascination with history that endures to this day. It is a baby boomer's story that begins in the St. Louis home of the author's grandparents where a child is fascinated by the family's B&W photographs of the preceding generation. Reaching out to these touchstones, the author discovers a spirit that leads us on our journey. A journey over history's byways that will take us from St. Louis to Canada, Scotland, England, France, Austria, and Bavaria on a journey to remember! This is a nostalgic quest to bridge the not-so-distant past that honors our parent's generation, the music and war films of the era. Together, we will bridge time to a bygone era of power, elegance, and heartbreak across Europe to relive and possibly remake history. Within you will uncover the human drama of a mountain chalet in the Bavarian Alps, at a place known as Hitler's Mountain, and the British plot to kill the leader of Germany's Third Reich. As the author recounts: "My pitch, as they say in Hollywood, is Where Eagles Dare (1968 MGM starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood), meets Valkyrie (2008 United Artists starring Tom Cruise). During holiday I visited the actual locations, from London to Bavaria. My story germinated, pardon the pun, as I walked a pathway near Hitler's mountain home. It is fiction heavily entwined with fact, or vice versa, with a dash of wishful thinking. After returning home I felt compelled to begin my account of what might have happened if Britain's Special Operations Executive had gone ahead with it." From the home of the author's grandparents in November 1950 we are transported to Wurzburg, Germany, during the filming of a 20th Century Fox's, Decision Before Dawn. Next, flash forward to 2003, in a BBC studio, where an eighty-two year old woman recounts her role in planning to kill the leader of Nazi Germany
