A rebellious youth in West Cork defies the wishes of his parents by joining the Irish Volunteers on the heels of the 1916 Easter Rising. Will he ever return home safely? This story is loosely based on the life of the author's uncle, Tim O'Sullivan, who served in the Volunteers. Much of the rich historical material is culled from multiple sources including firsthand eyewitness accounts from military archives and other prominent figures in the Irish republican movement.
