Publisher's Synopsis
This book title "A Batch of Pancakes" comes from one of the bits of prose included amongst these pages. It occurs to me that my life consists of layers. I can define these layers as culture, class, environment, education, personality, tradition, spirituality and probably others. This combination of layers stacks up to be me.
Without intending it to be so, "A Batch of Pancakes" is really a summary of my own life, the culmination of prose and poetry penned over a period of nearly sixty years.
The book is a combination of traditional forms of poetry as well as prose and what I like to refer to as "wisdoms" or brief writings from life experiences and observations that reflect simple truths, lessons and encouragements.
"A Batch of Pancakes" marries the original idea of a book for poetry with diary like written observations of daily life in a rural neighborhood in my community. The combination of these two groups of writings makes a more substantial offering for my first book and hopefully brings the reader alongside in my journey along the way.
Thomas Logan is a grandson of early homesteaders in the west and is the product of rural life in a working class community of loggers, farmers and small town merchants in the 1940's and 1950's. Thomas has been writing poetry since grade school. One of his earliest poems from 1959 is remembered as the center piece of Tom's next book, "Pensmanship."
