It is AD 892 and King Alfred is at war with the Danes and trying to unite one England under one King and one God; and in a tiny fishing port in Alfred's Westsexe, a young girl Peregrine, is facing an arranged marriage to a man she does not love. Through a dream, and the wreck of a Norse ship, their lives and fates become entwined. As Peregrine opens up her heart to a dream, she finds herself on an adventure that not only changes the course of her own life; but that of her family, her community, her country and even that of her enemies (the Norsemen).
