Jesse White Elk's father was a tremendous runner, winning the state cross-country meet in 1930. He gave his medal to Jesse when he was still a little boy. Jesse proudly wore it all the time to honor his father.
When Jesse is mysteriously murdered, the killer seems to disappear into thin air, and no one is brought to justice.
A school project many years later leads to the idea of changing the school mascot after White Elk. Little do they realize the upheaval it is about to cause. Kidnapping, murder, cover-up, and mystery soon follow.
The community is divided, and it seems as if no one is responsible for the crimes.
