Publisher's Synopsis
These are different types of meditation, but they both seem to benefit people in similar ways. I think the biggest difference in these two types of meditation is that the second type is more about the self-improvement side of things.
In this book, 12-Health Benefits of Meditation, I generally try to describe the type of meditation practice people engage in on the Internet, and it tends to fall into one of two categories.
One is the kind where you just sit and breathe for a certain length of time, and you're done. This is the most prevalent type of meditation practiced on the Internet, and many people call themselves "meditators." Some of the benefits include:
Some people say they benefit from it just because they like sitting.
Others say they like to meditate because they feel they can improve their quality of life.
The second is the kind of meditation where people engage in this as a form of self-improvement, for example by going on a vacation and telling themselves they need to clear their mind before they go. They also might spend a lot of time thinking about what a good day at work would look like or how they can be more productive in the future. The common benefit that I see in these types of meditation is that it "clears your head" or helps you figure out what is in your head.
