He arrived with no plans and no contacts, traveling by any means necessary across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan to photograph and interview any locals willing and able to speak with him about the concept of happiness.
Over 3 months and 40 or so conversations, strangers opened their homes and lives to him. He slept on their couches and floors, hitchhiked in their cars, and watched them cry while discussing their lives.
