The corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus, previously Elaphe guttata) is one of the excellent acknowledged and maximum popular snakes in captivity. The most familiar subspecies is the not unusual corn snake or pink rat snake (P. G. Guttatus). Two snakes that have been formerly assigned to subspecies categories were recently precise as full species: the Great Plains rat snake or Southwestern rat snake.
