Publisher's Synopsis
Disparaged Taxi Driver Danny Barnes reflects upon a disappearing way of life as he sets off for work on a wet miserable Monday night into the Smoke. He wants nothing more than to simply recapture the past and secure his future living in the countryside of Essex. However, an altercation takes place with his passenger at the end of a difficult night shift, which engenders severe consequences for both himself and his wife Ally. Detectives Steve Pearson and James Johnson soon come knocking at his door, whilst at the same time hard man Kris Savva; a London businessman seeks the truth behind the occurrence of his son's injuries. The dichotomy lies with the arrest of Roman Petrescu; an illegal immigrant who detectives feel is complicit when he is captured in possession of property belonging to Danny's passenger. This leads to the occurrence of Danny and Ally's contemporaneous attacks. However, Danny soon discovers the address of the perpetrator who'd attacked his wife. He seeks his own form of justice, until somebody gets there first. But enforcer Jamal Khan immediately latches onto Danny's case with a dire threat, until Detective Sergeant Kiki Carruthers is brought in to ascertain a link between the murders, but can she find the culprits responsible? And can Danny and Ally keep ahead of her accusations and secure that little house in the countryside?.
