Publisher's Synopsis
Durango investigator Mike Gallagher becomes embroiled in a violent at-tempt to thwart the making of a movie based on the legend of the Lost Dutchman mine. Like Gallagher, the villain is a long-range rifleman, a motorcycle rider and an experienced outdoorsman. The action takes place in the mountains of southwestern Colorado, far from big-city police resources. Weather and terrain hamper an investigation having its origins in the derailment of a Southern Pacific train in 1939. The wreck kills twenty-four passengers and injures 121. In the confusion, the saboteurs escape with a Railway Express strongbox containing a fortune in small bills.
