The novel opens with the sisters Ursula and Gudrun Brangwen chatting about marriage one morning at their father's residence in Beldover. Gudrun has these days again domestic from artwork school in London. The later determine to drop by using a local wedding ceremony, where they first see Gerald Crich and Rupert Birkin, the two men with whom they will develop affairs that force the motion of the radical. Birkin is a college inspector with extremely unconventional attitudes about lifestyles, and Gerald is the inheritor to the nearby mining operation this is the valuable industry of Beldover. Birkin and Gerald hate every different passionately at the start of the novel, but after a risk come across on the manner to London they begin to come to be buddies.
