Publisher's Synopsis
Create a strong foundation for reading.
Creating a fun, strong foundation in the pre-reading years is essential for future learning in all subject areas.
This book uses techniques for strengthening fine motor skills and developing hand and finger muscles necessary for writing with a pencil or other handwriting tool, while also familiarizing the student with the very foundation of reading - the alphabet.
Most children can sing the alphabet song, but learning how the letters are made and put together to form words is an important skill. Reading and writing from left to right and top to bottom is another reading skill that is sometimes overlooked. Lastly, learning how the letters sound and being able to determine which words start with a particular sound will be the basis for future phonics lessons.
Included in this book are the preschool sight words as listed by the Dolch reading list. Learning to recognize these words on sight will prepare the child for reading skills introduced in the first grade and beyond.
This workbook uses the familiarity of animals to introduce the alphabet for many hours of coloring and letter games to make the whole process fun.
PLEASE NOTE Coloring should be done with crayons, as markers or colored pens will bleed through the paper.
