Publisher's Synopsis

Fifty-year-old George Grafton is elated to discover the house of his dreams - a place called Abington Abbey. It has three thousand acres, a pond, cloisters, even a chapel! George shows the photos of the house to his children, and the butler, and decides that he needs to go down and see the house in person. And that is what he does, with his eldest daughter, Caroline, in tow. They meet some of the locals, including the Vicar of Abington - who has already heard of the rich banker, and his invested interest in the property. Word travels fast in the tiny village. He eagerly shows the around, focusing his tour on the church, hoping that they will join the Sunday service on a regular basis. George and Caroline picnic on the property, awed by the deer, and the beautiful garden. They begin to imagine what life would be like at Abington Abbey, even going so far as to decide where the furniture would be placed in the large rooms.
